It’s All About (The) First ‘charity-powered’ search engine built
Digital project will show how charities help to change world for better by answering range of public concerns about some of our greatest challenges.
More than 200 charities will come together in September to launch what’s claimed to be the first charity-powered Internet search engine. Called Human, it will aim to combine the charities’ knowledge and expertise to enable the public to ask some of life’s biggest questions and be inspired to think about legacy giving.
The responses they get will come directly from charities, their supporters and beneficiaries. Developed by Remember A Charity and design agency Atomic London as part of this year’s legacy giving awareness week, Remember A Charity in your Will Week (10-16 September 2018), Human will form a knowledge platform that demonstrates charities’ pivotal role in helping to solve some of the biggest challenges facing humanity, its creators have said.
Through the search engine, people can ask questions such as: ‘How can we cure the deadliest common cancers?’, ‘How do we ensure no one has to sleep rough?’, and ‘How can we help every homeless animal find a home?’ They will also be able to view online video responses showing how the participating charities address such issues and how the public can help, by leaving a charitable gift in their will.
Encouraging legacy giving
“People use Google to find the answers to their questions, but it’s real people and charities we turn to when we want answers to life’s biggest challenges,” said Rob Cope, Director of Remember A Charity. “This campaign has been designed to showcase just how vital charities are in responding to many of the world’s biggest problems and how legacies can help combat those issues. It will encourage the public to think about their deepest concerns for the world we live in, and to consider leaving a gift in their will.”
Cope added: “For charities, it’s an opportunity to talk with supporters about the importance of charitable bequests when it comes to enabling them to achieve their goals. We hope to encourage even more charities to sign-up and take part in the coming weeks.”
This year (2018) marks the ninth anniversary of the first Remember A Charity Week, during which charities, government and stakeholders will all come together to highlight the importance of legacy giving. The new Internet search engine will form part of a broader public awareness drive, which showcases the impact of legacy donations and calls on the public to ‘pass on something wonderful’.
Remember A Charity is providing a range of legacy promotion materials, digital media and social tools for member charities to use and tailor to their cause. They will also be provided with their own branded webpage and unique URL as part of the search engine.
