In his award-winning “Parts Unknown” series, Bourdain took the world to CNN viewers. Through the simple act of sharing meals, he showed the extraordinary diversity of cultures and cuisines, however, what we all have in common.
Tragically, he tried again on Friday. Bourdain’s death has shocked viewers around the world. The most common feeling: “I feel like I’ve lost a friend”.

Bourdain was a larger figure in life: a talented chef and storyteller who used his books and shows to explore culture, cuisine and the human condition.

The news of Bourdain’s death was met with deep sadness within CNN, where “Parts Unknown” was released in the last five years. In an e-mail to the employees, the president of the network, Jeff Zucker, reminded him as an “exceptional talent”.
“Tony will miss a lot not only for his work but also for the passion with which he did it,” wrote Zucker.

CNN said that Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series, “Parts Unknown”. His dear friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain insensitive in his hotel room on Friday morning. He was 61 and took his life.

President Donald Trump extended his condolences to the Bourdain family on Friday morning. “I liked his show,” said Trump. “He was quite a character.”
Former President Barack Obama recalled a meal he shared with Bourdain in Vietnam while Obama was traveling to Asia in 2016, an encounter captured in an episode of “Unknown Parties” that year.
“‘Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious spaghetti, Hanoi cold beer.’ This is how I will remember Tony, “Obama wrote on Twitter on Friday. “He taught us food, but above all, with regards to his ability to be together, to make us feel a little less afraid of the unknown, we will miss him”.
